Russ McDonnell

Certified Sports Performance Coach

USA Weightlifting Level 2 Coach

USA Powerlifting Club Coach

Originally a structural engineer (1993 - 2001) in the fields of bridge fabrication & geological drilling, Russ McDonnell changed careers to pursue his passion in engineering the human form, and became a certified Strength & Conditioning coach.

Although a lifelong athlete and internationally successful competitor in the strength sports of Powerlifting and Olympic Weightlifting for over half his life, his greatest accomplishments and joy are derived from the achievements of the many Lancaster County high school and college athletes and sports teams with which he has worked over the past two decades.

Russ believes in a ground-based training approach that incorporates the Olympic and Powerlifts, and their variants. This requires the athlete to produce, as well as receive force, as they move through extreme athletic positions while maintaining agility, balance, coordination, and flexibility.

In the real world of design and construction, every build has it's own unique design requirements and specifications. So, too, does each human form. Applying those engineering skills from his previous career, Russ views the moving body as a collection of joint angles, levers, and fulcrums.

Attention to detail. Experience. Expert coaching. These factors are the difference between purposeful training or simply exercising.
